« TURBULENT BLUES » First LP of Sophie Kay
Engaged blues and bad love stories written with poetry, humor or despair against a background of music sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric, shuffle, blues minor, ragtime, early jazz or acoustic folk and a hint of tango.
Sophie Kay recorded this album over several years. From 2017 to 2020 she has been lying on Protools with the precious help of her favorite sound engineer, Denis Goltser, songs she had in a drawer for decades (welcome Sweet Little Angel) for years (The lowdown wayne you do) and more recently songs composed in reaction to the news balanced by the media, a news ever more deadly. Are we so unimportant to deserve this, could figure inconclusion of this album, perhaps an idea for another record. Instead Sophie Kay concluded that sooner or later everyone will be boiled down one of these days, for not having reacted in time, for not having known or be enable to put our deep humanity forward (I didn’t speakout).
Faced with the reality of the themes mentioned, SophieKay offers us an album of blues, her blues, all in finesse. The depth of the compositions strikes us, but the orchestration allows a musical breath in emotion. A very feminist interpretation… which does not spoil anything.
This album deserves to be in your disco!
